Sachin Tendulkar welcomes Kumar Sangakkara to the club of the retired

first_imgKumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lankan batting icon, walked into bat for one last time on Sunday afternoon at P Sara Oval in Colombo. There were kids near the boundary rope who gave guard of honour for the legend. And there were the Indian cricketers including the umpires also gave him the honour. Emotions were running high. There were handshakes. There were applauds. And the man walked into bat, to do what he has done the best in his career, trying to steer his team away from danger of losing the Test.In a short knock of 18, there were trademark Sangakkara drives and his flicks off the pads. Indian offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin though ruined the left-hander’s farewell. It was the fourth consecutive time in the series that Ashwin had sent Sangakkara walking back, this time being the last.Twitterati, the men who had played the game with him, those who had watched him play, shared their thoughts on the man after his final innings. Here are a few of those tweets.  Well played @KumarSanga2. You have been a terrific ambassador for the game & a thorough gentleman.
