Walker devastated after breaking arm

first_imgDerrick Keith, the agent for champion and leading jockey Omar Walker, said his client is devastated after breaking his right arm on the exercise track at Caymanas Park yesterday. Walker, a five-time champion jockey, reportedly fell off a horse at the four-furlong post during workout at the track. He was rushed to the Spanish Town hospital before he was later transferred to the Andrews Memorial hospital, where he was scheduled to undergo surgery yesterday. Walker, who is affectionately called ‘Champo’ by his peers, leads the jockey’s standings with 69 winners from 273 rides this year. Former champion jockey Shane Ellis is second in the standings with 45 winners from 209 mounts. Keith said Walker is very saddenned by the injury, which could sidelined him for up to six months. “It was a nasty spill and so he was taken to the Spanish Town hospital, and X-rays showed that he had a broken arm,” said Keith. “His arm is broken top-side is right wrist and so we don’t know how long he will be out of action ,” Keith said. “He was in a lot pain because doctors had to give him an injection to ease the pain.” Keith said Walker, who had 10 rides on today’s ten race programme, is also very unhappy with the fact that he will not be able to get onboard any of his mounts today. “He is very disappointed because we have some very good rides on the card tomorrow (today),” said Keith. “We have 10 rides on the card, Four or five of them are very good rides and so this a very disappointing time for Omar,” he said. Among Walker’s live rides on today’s eleven race programme are LEGENDARY PLEASURE in the second race, QUEEN OF BAGDAD in Race Two, SUPERTRONICS in Race Four and SIMPLICLASSICAL in the ninth event.last_img read more
